Alasan Google dan Microsoft Terjun ke Media Sosial

Membaca di Techcrunch bahwa Microsoft ikut-ikutan membuat social media, saya jadi penasaran, kenapa IT big Company pada terjun membuat produk social media?

Google membuat GooglePlus, Microsoft membuat socl.com (tapi belum dipublish).

Karena penasaran, saya coba cek ke Google berapa besar revenue yang didapat oleh Google dan Facebook pada tahun 2010.

Untuk quarter keempat 2010 saja, dari Google Site Revenue, Google sudah membukukan revenue sebesar $5.670.000.000 atau Rp 51.030.000.000.000 atau 51 Triliun!

Detail:

Revenues – Google reported revenues of $8.44 billion in the fourth quarter of 2010, representing a 26% increase over fourth quarter 2009 revenues of $6.67 billion. Google reports its revenues, consistent with GAAP, on a gross basis without deducting TAC.

Google Sites Revenues - Google-owned sites generated revenues of $5.67 billion, or 67% of total revenues, in the fourth quarter of 2010. This represents a 28% increase over fourth quarter 2009 revenues of $4.42 billion.

Google Network Revenues - Google's partner sites generated revenues, through AdSense programs, of $2.50 billion, or 30% of total revenues, in the fourth quarter of 2010. This represents a 22% increase from fourth quarter 2009 network revenues of $2.04 billion.

International Revenues - Revenues from outside of the United States totaled $4.38 billion, representing 52% of total revenues in the fourth quarter of 2010, compared to 52% in the third quarter of 2010 and 53% in the fourth quarter of 2009. Excluding gains related to our foreign exchange risk management program, had foreign exchange rates remained constant from the third quarter of 2010 through the fourth quarter of 2010, our revenues in the fourth quarter of 2010 would have been $201 million lower. Excluding gains related to our foreign exchange risk management program, had foreign exchange rates remained constant from the fourth quarter of 2009 through the fourth quarter of 2010, our revenues in the fourth quarter of 2010 would have been $132 million higher.

Selanjutnya, saya cari di Google, berapa besar Revenue Facebook ditahun 2010. Dari bizjournals.com, Revenue Facebook bisa mencapai $1.08 billion atau Rp 9,72 Triliun! Dan ditahun 2011, diprediksi revenue Facebook dari iklan bisa mencapai $4.05 billion atau atau Rp 36,45 Triliun !

Ternyata, Facebook bisa membukukan Revenue lebih dari 1/2 Revenue Situs-situs Google internal seperti Google Search, Google Mail, Google Maps dan lain-lain.

Ad spending on Facebook will reach $4.05 billion worldwide in 2011, more than double last year's estimated take of $1.86 billion in global ad revenues, according to eMarketer.

 

By 2012, worldwide ad spending on Facebook is expected to reach $5.74 billion, up 42 percent over 2011, the internet commerce analysis firm predicts. Facebook is privately held and does not make its financial performance data public, and eMarketer's numbers do not estimate revenue from other sources, such as commissions on purchases of virtual goods using Facebook Credits.

Jika Google berhasil membuat saingan dari Facebook dan bisa meraup setengah dari pengguna Facebook sebesar 350 juta saja, maka keuntungan yang didapat dari situs internal Google bisa bertambah 2 Billion USD. Dan ini bukan jumlah yang sedikit.

Melihat kue yang begitu besar, tak pelak, Microsoft ikutan ngiler. Kenapa pada ngiler, karena model bisnis social media itu sederhana dan tepat sasaran. Social media bisa membuat pengiklan lebih dimudahkan dan disegmentasi. Iklan-iklan yang bertengger di sisi samping, bisa lebih tepat sasaran karena di sosial media, orang menunjukkan jati dirinya. Jadi, iklan-iklan bisa diterjang ke pengguna lebih tepat sasaran.
